An Apple exec who retired after 31 years shared the nostaglic checklist from his last day

After three decades at Apple, one exec’s last day included checking items off his corporate bucket list.

Stan Ng oversaw marketing for iconic products such as the Apple WatchAirPods, and Apple’s home and health offerings. He said Thursday was his last day at the tech giant, and it looks like he spent it exactly as he wanted.

Ng described his final shift as an Apple employee in a LinkedIn post.

“After 31 years at Apple, today was my last day,” he wrote. “I think I got in everything I wanted to do on my last day before retiring.”

He spent it at Apple Parkthe tech giant’s headquarters in Cupertino, California, known for its amenities that fuel a small community of employees.

His goodbye checklist began with a signature habit of CEO Tim Cook’s: watching the sun rise over Apple Park. Cook usually kicks off big event days for Apple with a flick of the view from the spaceship-like headquarters.

Ng posted a similar photo, but his picture featured an Apple artifact. On his last day, he brought his original iPod to work with him, which he said still lasted for hours.

Ng said he took it to the Apple Park gym and worked out while listening to tunes. He said he got some curious looks while sporting the iconic white wired headphones instead of modern AirPods.

In his photo, U2’s “Beautiful Day” is queued up. He continued his checklist by riding a bike around the outer ring of Apple Park for the last time.

Ng joined Apple as a system engineer in 1995, according to his LinkedIn profile. After 31 years at the helm of product marketing, Ng said there were still things he hadn’t done before.

He finally completed his tour of Apple’s exclusive dining service by hitting the one station he hadn’t tried before, Caffè Macs. It made him regret not visiting the pizza station sooner, he said.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Ng’s retirement.

His last day finished with final goodbyes and a round of applause from his colleagues, which Ng said was a surprise.

“It was a joy to work at Apple, and I truly loved what I did,” Ng said. “A big thank you to everyone I worked with, both inside and outside Apple!”
