Indonesia to Start Building Hajj Village in Makkah in December

Indonesia’s investment body Danantara plans to begin construction of its Hajj Village project in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, in December.

The plan follows a land purchase in the city, which Danantara completed in October.

Danantara CEO Rosan Roeslani briefed President Prabowo Subianto on the preparations. The briefing took place at a limited cabinet meeting at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Rosan, who is also Indonesia’s Investment and Downstreaming Minister, said:

“I provided an update regarding the development in Saudi Arabia. The architects are scheduled to visit Indonesia to present a comprehensive plan, as the goal is to hold a groundbreaking ceremony—or begin construction—in December.”

The project aims to strengthen Hajj and Umrah services for pilgrims travelling from Indonesia.

Land and Hotel Already Secured

Danantara Indonesia, through its investment holding arm PT Danantara Investment Management (DIM), completed the purchase of a 4.4-hectare plot in the Thakher district of Makkah on October 18, 2026.

It had already taken over the Novotel Thakher Makkah, an operating hotel with 1,461 rooms and suites. The hotel was handed over on August 11, 2026.

Built in Phases With a Local Partner

The Hajj Village will be developed in phases with Al-Khomasiah, a local development partner. Al-Khomasiah helped arrange the land deal and supports Danantara Indonesia’s presence in Saudi Arabia.

Danantara said feasibility studies, approvals and permits for the land will be prepared and submitted at each stage of development.
