Will Iran take up Vance lifeline to avoid another US attack?

Iran unlikely to get a better offer

US Vice President JD Vance has offered Iran what may be a last chance to avoid an otherwise seemingly imminent US-Israeli military strike after the US midterm elections on Nov. 3.

In a letter to Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Vance reiterated the US demand that any further negotiations require meaningful Iranian concessions on its nuclear program. The letter may also have offered medical or humanitarian assistance, based on comments by US President Donald Trump, who approved the outreach.

By writing directly to Rezaei, who previously served as commander in chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Vance is signaling both the seriousness of the proposal and the potential consequences for Iran if diplomacy fails. His initiative is part of a frantic round of regional diplomacy. Qatari negotiators have been engaged in marathon talks in Tehran over the US proposal.
