The latest WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event was, at the request of John Cena, built around the future of WWE. No matchup better exemplified than the unexpected tag team match pitting AJ Styles and Dragon Lee against TNA’s Leon Slater and NXT’s Je’Von Evans.
With Styles’ WWE retirement set for 2026every appearance he makes will, much like with Cena, feel incredibly special. What better way for Styles to make an impact than to step into the ring with Evans? WWE reportedly has big plans for the NXT stalwart, and the company is already kick-starting that massive push.
Just a handful of stars got the opportunity to appear on the same show as John Cena’s final match, and at Saturday Night’s Main EventEvans and Slater set out to steal the show against Styles and Lee.
WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event 2025 Results for AJ Styles and Dragon Lee vs. Je’Von Evans and Leon Slater
Heading into WWE Saturday Night’s Main Eventthere wasn’t much in the way of storyline development. Instead, at Cena’s requestthe show provided WWE with a slate of exhibition matches featuring NXT standouts.
That was perfectly evidenced by the highlight-filled tag team match, where the soon-to-be-retiring Styles and Lee took on a pair of rising stars inSlater and Evans. As expected, the tag title match was a highlight-filled, action-packed showcase from start to finish, one that concluded with Styles and Lee retaining after a Styles Clash by “The Phenomenal One.”
Below are the key highlights and biggest moments from Styles and Lee vs. Evans and Slater at Saturday Night’s Main Event:
- From the jump, Slater and Evans went on the offensive with a pair of superkicks and a trio of high-flying moves to the outside. That wowed the crowd right away.
- Slater quickly tagged in Evans, who hit a beautiful splash onto Lee, the legal man. Slater missed a shoulder tackle onto Lee, which sent him shoulder first into the turnbuckle. Lee hit a picture perfect sit out powerbomb on Slater and then tagged in Styles as Slater tagged in Evans.
- Styles hit a massive clothesline and a corner clothesline, followed by a knee to the back on the neck. He took out Slater, then went for a springboard on Evans, who knocked him off the apron. Evans went for a moonsault to the outside, but Styles moved. Lee hit a flying hurricanrana onto Slater, who landed on Styles as Styles attempted a Style Clash but couldn’t get to.
- Evans hit the OG Cutter onto Styles back in the ring and tagged in Slater as the crowd chanted “This is awesome!” Slater hi the Swnaton 450 onto Slater, and it looked like they’d get the win. But Lee drop-kicked Evans onto Slater to break up the pin. More “This is awesome!” chants from the crowd.
- Lee took out Evans with a running back elbow and a dive onto the outside. Slater teased a Styles Clash, but Styles reversed it and attempted one of his own. Slater tossed Styles onto the apron, and Styles attempted the Phenomenal Forearm but slipped on the top rope. Slater went for the pin but got only two.
- Slater attempted a leaping move onto Styles, who caught Slater for the Styles Clash and nailed it. That was enough for the 1-2-3.

Lee and Styles won the titles on the Oct. 20 edition of Monday Night Raw when they defeated The Judgment Day, and after their successful title defense, they should remain champions into 2026.
WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event 2025 Results: What’s Next for AJ Styles and Dragon Lee?
There was little doubt that AJ Styles and Dragon Lee would retain their titles over an NXT star and a TNA wrestler at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Their tag title reign and run as a tag team, however, likely won’t last very long.
Because of Styles’ impending retirement tour, there is little to suggest that he and Lee, a makeshift tag team that just happened to click, will stick together for the long haul. That’s especially true now that WWE has put a renewed focus on reenergizing the once flat Raw tag team division.
The Judgment Day remains a major force on Raw while The New Day is getting more TV time as of late. What’s more, the Usos recently made it clear that they are back together as a full-blown tag team that has put the entire team on notice. Throw in The War Raiders, and that’s a strong core for a very formidable tag team division.
What’s that mean for Styles and Lee? Well, even though they won their latest tag team encounter at Saturday Night’s Main Eventthey are probably just keeping those titles warm for a long-term team like the Usos or The New Day. In the early months of 2026, those teams are likely going to be a focus of Raw while Styles almost assuredly will transition to singles action in his final year of wrestling.
As the Usos continue to reacclimate to being a tag team while the War Raiders and New Day consistently impress during their infrequent appearances, there is more than enough room for Lee and Styles to go their separate ways.
After WWE Saturday Night’s Main EventLee and Styles may be riding high, but don’t be surprised if they’re knocked off their pedestal within the next month or two.
