Saudi Doctor Teaches Quran at Masjid an-Nabawi for 12 Years to Honor Late Mother
- Dr. Abdullah Allam has taught Quran recitation at the Prophet’s Mosque for 12 years.
- He fulfills a promise to his late mother while working as a consultant surgeon.
- He instructs students in the advanced Ten Qira’at styles after completing hospital duties.
For over a decade, Dr. Abdullah Allam, a consultant surgeon at King Fahd Hospital in Medina, has led a dual life of healing and teaching.
Following the passing of his mother twelve years ago, he committed to honoring her deepest wish: that he teach the Quran within the Prophet’s Mosque.
He now balances demanding surgical shifts, sometimes lasting twelve hours, with evening lessons on the complex Ten Qira’at (recitation styles).
“To honor her wish and reward her, I started teaching the Ten Qira’at here,” Dr. Allam stated.
He described the challenge of managing his medical responsibilities alongside this spiritual commitment, noting that even during a previous term as hospital director, he maintained his teaching schedule.
“It’s challenging, but it’s a blessing from Allah,” he explained.

His classes attract students from across the globe who visit the mosque, offering instruction in advanced recitation methodology.
