Ryan Garcia Vs. Rolly Romero Full Card: What Time Does It Start?

Times Square in New York is the scene, and no one knows exactly what to expect on Friday for Fata Fury: City of Wolves aka the massive boxing tripleheader that will see the return of Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney to the ring in separate fights, and Teofimo Lopez in action defending his junior welterweight title. And it’s happening in Times Square.

I’m in New York for the fight and will be among the media group ringside for the event. I’ll have live results for each fight as they end tomorrow, but for now, here’s when everything gets started.

  • Date: Friday, May 2
  • Time: 6pm and
  • TV/Stream: Dazn

The card is absolutely stacked. In the main event, Garcia takes on Rolly Romero. Garcia, recently reinstated following his one-year suspension for testing positive for use of a banned substance, is seemingly on a collision course to rematch Haney. However, both men have to win on Friday to keep this one track. Romero is a KO artist with a 16-2 record with 13 KO. Romero’s only losses came via stoppage to Gervonta Davis and Isaac Cruz. He represents a good test for Garcia in his return bout.

Haney is taking on former world champion Jose Ramirez in a catchweight fight at 143 pounds. Haney has to show he has recovered physically and mentally from the beating he took from Garcia in 2024. Lopez will defend his title against Arnold Barboza.

This card and these three fights will help to shape the future of the welterweight division. Jaron “Boots” Ennis currently holds half of the recognized world titles and he has his sights set on becoming the undisputed champion. The fighters that emerge victorious on Friday have an excellent chance to challenge for a world title at 147 pounds.

Because of the weight on his card, fighters like Ennis, Brian Norman and others will be watching closely as their next opponents could come from this historic event.

This fight card was born out of the bitter rivalry between Garcia and Haney. The latter and his father, Bill believe Garcia was knowingly doping before their first fight–which saw Garcia win by unanimous decision as he floored Haney three times. Garcia insists he was clean and that there was something amiss with his negative tests. In any case, that rivalry is indirectly powering Fatal Fury.

Haney wants to prove Garcia’s win over him was a product of PEDs, but Ramirez is a proud former champion who won’t go down without a fight.

Garcia may have the easiest night as he looks to counter Romero and bait him to land the huge left hook. I predict the main event will end in a statement-making KO that will result in KingRy’s star growing even bigger.

Lopez has the toughest matchup on paper.

Barboza is very deserving of a title shot and he has proven his mettle in each of his most recent fights. He could take Lopez into the deep waters and drown him. If you’re looking for the guy who has the best chance to pull the upset, it’s Barboza.

Once we have results from the top three fights on the card, we’ll see the next chips fall into place.
