Key Facts
Billionaire Microsoft cofounder Bill Gates was named in the latest batch of Epstein files released by the DOJ late last week, with allegations that he engaged in potentially illegal behavior present in emails Epstein sent to himself that were addressed to Gates.
One email alleges that Gates requested that Epstein provide antibiotics for a sexually transmitted disease that he could “surreptitiously” give to French Gates.
French Gates said the allegations caused her “unbelievable sadness,” adding she “had to leave [her] marriage.”
French Gates also stated the release brought back “memories of some very very painful times in [her] marriage,” adding she has “moved on from that” and is now in a “beautiful place” in her life.
A spokesperson for Bill Gates responded to French Gates’ comments in a statement to NPR, writing, “These claims are absolutely absurd and completely false. The only thing these documents demonstrate is Epstein’s frustration that he did not have an ongoing relationship with Gates and the lengths he would go to entrap and defame.”
French Gates’ NPR interview will be released in full on Thursday.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
