The Jordanian military clashed with drug smugglers on the Syrian border on Monday as the drug war continues to plague both countries.

Jordan’s official Petra news agency reported that the clashes on the northern border began at dawn on Monday, leading to “several” smugglers being killed and injured. Nine of the smugglers were arrested, and the Jordanian forces seized weapons along with 4,926,000 Captagon pills and 12,858 palm-sized sheets of hashish, according to the agency.

The agency described the clashes as “ongoing” as of Monday evening local time.
