Freakier Friday is a sequel to the beloved 2003 remake starring Curtis and Lohan. In the first film, mystical Chinese fortune cookies cause Anna, a rebellious teenager, and her uptight mother, Tess, to swap bodies. In the next chapter, Anna is a mother herself, with a daughter named Harper (Julia Butters) and a soon-to-be stepdaughter named Lily (Sophia Hammons).
Instead of Anna and Tess swapping places, Anna’s daughters will now be involved, turning the ordeal into a four-way body swap. The synopsis reads, “Two decades after an identity crisis, Anna’s blended family faces new challenges. Tess and Anna discover their past may be repeating with the next generation.”
Freakier Friday is on track to bring in an estimated $30 million to $32 million at the box office for its opening weekend, which is an excellent start for a Disney comedy film with a reported budget of $45 million, according to Deadline. Moviegoers are reacting positively to the reboot, which has a 94% audience score and a 73% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Disney’s Freakier Friday premiered exclusively in theaters on Friday, August 8. Currently, the only way to watch the film is in movie theaters. Check your local cinemas for specific showtimes and to buy tickets.
When Will Freakier Friday Be Streaming On Disney+?

As of now, Freakier Friday does not yet have a Disney+ release date, as it was just released in theaters. However, based on the timeline of other Disney blockbuster releases, we can estimate when the movie could land on the streaming platform. Fans will likely have to wait three to four months — until November or December 2025 — to watch the film on Disney+.
Looking at other Disney+ releases, Captain America: Brave New Worldwhich premiered in theaters on Valentine’s Day 2025, was released on Disney+ in May, about three and a half months later. Moana 2 premiered in theaters in November 2024 and landed on Disney+ just over three months later. The Disney prequel Mufasa: The Lion King halso debuted on Disney+ more than three months after its release.
To watch Freakier Friday when the movie arrives on Disney+, you’ll need to sign up for a subscription to the streaming platform. Plans start at $9.99 per month for the basic option (with ads). While Disney+ is not offering a free trial, the service offers a bundle option with ESPN+ and/or Hulu, starting at $10.99 monthly.

Here’s the good news: if you missed seeing Freakier Friday in theaters or you want to watch it again, you don’t have to wait until November or December to see the film on Disney+.
The movie will be available to purchase and rent on digital video-on-demand platforms, including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, and YouTube TV, before it lands on Disney+. The price for a new release is typically around $29.99 to buy and $24.99 for a 48-hour rental, but prices can vary.
Studios usually make their movies available digitally about 45 to 65 days after their theatrical premiere, though the timing can vary based on the film’s box office performance. (The better a movie does in theaters, the longer you might have to wait to watch it at home). Freakier Friday will likely be released digitally around late September to early October 2025.
