Explosion in Beirut amid tension on Lebanon-Israel border

[ad_1]

An explosion rocked the Lebanese capital Beirut on Tuesday as border tension with Israel escalates. No immediate cause for the explosion was given but videos showed large impact on cars and residential buildings.

Lebanon’s official National News Agency reported that the explosion was heard in the Mashrifiyah area, southern of Beirut, and that cars were seen on fire. The reasons for the explosion were unknown as of approximately 11 am ET, according to the agency.

The explosion came as tension escalated on the border between Israel and Lebanon’s juggernaut militant group Hezbollah.

The Washington Post quoted a Hezbollah spokesperson saying that the headquarters of a Palestinian official was targeted in Dahieh where Mashrifiyah is. The area also hosts Hezbollah’s headquarters.

This is a breaking story and will be updated.
