Blue Jays’ Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Under Fire After Posting Near-Nude Photos

The Toronto Blue Jays have made a lot of changes to the roster this winter but their chances of returning to the World Series will likely hinge on a familiar face.

Even with Dylan Cease, Tyler Rogers and Kazuma Okamoto joining the team, the Blue Jays will continue to rely on franchise slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to carry the offense and lead the clubhouse.

After signing a $500 million extension with the team early in the season, Guerrero earned his fifth straight All-Star season and recorded 29 hits and eight homers in the playoffs last year. Next season, even with a new supporting cast, the first baseman will be expected to turn in another star season with further playoff heroics.

Toronto Blue Jays Slugger Turns Heads With Social Media Post

And for his part, Guerrero seems to be taking that responsibility seriously.

Guerrero shared some before and after pictures of himself posing with no shirt and rolled up shorts on Instagram. It seemed like Guerrero was attempting to showcase that he had lost weight and gotten into better shape ahead of the next Blue Jays season, but many users on X, formerly Twitter, shared decidedly negative reactions to the image.

“All he did was pull up his underwear and flex,” wrote one user in response to a version of the post shared by TheScore editor Brandon Wile.

“Proof you don’t need to be an athlete to perform in baseball,” wrote another.

A version of the photo shared by TheScore’s primary account on X quickly received more than 950,000 views and more than 200 comments. Many of those comments pointed out that the before and after pictures of the slugger were virtually identical.

Toronto Blue Jays Franchise Star Details New Passion For Fitness

Though there isn’t much physical evidence that Guerrero has undergone a significant transformation this winter, there is good reason to believe he will help build on the Blue Jays’ success with another strong season.

At just 26 years old, he has only just started weight training and it seems a new dedication to fitness could help raise his ceiling.

“I started working out two years ago,” Guerrero told Men’s Health through an interpreter, shortly after last season ended. “Obviously I used to only catch ground balls, bat, and run — I didn’t see the motivation to do weights.”

Now, following a $500 million payday and championship expectations after a run to the World Series, Guerrero seems excited to share his offseason progress — even if some users on social media have been quick to criticize him.
