This Muslim Railway Worker Has Saved 34 Lives – ilmfeed
A Muslim Transport for London worker has helped prevent at least 34 people from taking their own lives by offering something many people in crisis desperately need: someone willing to stop, listen and care
Rizwan Javedwho works across Transport for London’s rail network, has quietly become a source of hope for people experiencing some of the darkest moments of their lives.
Rather than walking past, Rizwan has repeatedly stepped in to speak with people in crisis, helping them move away from danger and towards safety through calm conversations and genuine compassion.
His life-saving work began after completing suicide prevention training with the charity Samaritanswhere he learned how to recognise the signs that someone may be struggling.
According to Rizwan, many of these interventions have started with one simple but powerful question:
“Are you okay?”
Sometimes, that single question has been enough to open the door to a conversation that ultimately saved a life.
Beyond his work on London’s transport network, Rizwan has also become an advocate for better mental health awareness, encouraging people to speak openly about their struggles and helping break down the stigma that often surrounds mental illness.
His story is a powerful reminder that ordinary acts of kindness can have extraordinary consequences. A few moments of compassion, a listening ear, or a simple question can make all the difference to someone who feels they have nowhere else to turn.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“The most beloved people to Allah are those who are most beneficial to people.”
May Allah reward Rizwan Javed for his compassion, grant ease to all those facing mental health struggles, and inspire more of us to look out for one another. Ameen.
