Today’s Wordle #1709 Hints And Answer For Sunday, February 22

Sunday, lazy Sunday. It’s kind of an extra-exciting — if not particularly lazy — Sunday for me, dearest Wordlers. Normally we have our D&D night on Sundays, but our D&D group is doing a big Chinese New Year’s party instead, making dumplings, chow mein and a bunch of other tasty dishes.

Then, of course, it’s the big Season 1 finale of A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms, which I’m both excited about and dreading, since we’ll then have to wait another year for Season 2. Speaking of good TV shows, my weekend streaming guide is out with some other TV and movie suggestions for your February evenings. Give it a look!

Alright, let’s solve this Wordle!

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

How To Play Wordle

Wordle is a daily word puzzle game where your goal is to guess a hidden five-letter word in six tries or fewer. After each guess, the game gives feedback to help you get closer to the answer:

  • Green: The letter is in the word and in the correct spot.
  • Yellow: The letter is in the word, but in the wrong spot.
  • Gray: The letter is not in the word at all.

Use these clues to narrow down your guesses. Every day brings a new word, and everyone around the world is trying to solve the same puzzle. Some Wordlers also play Competitive Wordle against friends, family, the Wordle Bot or even against me, your humble narrator. See rules for Competitive Wordle toward the end of this post.

Wordle Bot Analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordle score with Wordle Bot right here.

COURT wasn’t a terrible opening guess, but it wasn’t great, either. At least it got me a yellow vowel. GUILE slashed the 148 remaining words down to just 6, and GUMMY left me with just one. I had no idea there were six left. I’d come up with GUAVA, GUMMY and GUPPY and figured GUMMY, but there were also GUSHY, GUNKY and GUSSY (a word I’d never have thought of!). Still, I got this one in four, so not too shabby.

Competitive Wordle Score

I get 0 for guessing in four and -1 for losing to the Bot. The Bot gets 1 for guessing in three and another for beating me. Our February totals narrow once again:

Erik: 16 points

Wordle Bot: 1 point

How To Play Competitive Wordle

  • Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
  • If you beat your opponent you get 1 point. If you tie, you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or just play for a new score each day.
  • Fridays are 2XP, meaning you double your points—positive or negative.
  • You can keep a running tally or just play day-by-day. Enjoy!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

Guava comes from Spanish guavaborrowed from Taíno (an Arawakan Caribbean language) guava/guavathe native name of the fruit and tree. It entered English in the 16th century with European contact in the Americas and has kept essentially the same form and meaning since.
