Nine New New York Mets Players Will Earn $142.25M This Coming Season

It appears the New York Mets are leaving no dollar unspent in their quest to win a World Series Championship.

Under the ownership of Steven A. Cohen, the Mets have added $$142.25M+ in new contracts to their annual player payroll this season

Mets President of Baseball Operations, David Stearns, has done a complete refurbishing of his team’s roster. He added consequential hitting and pitching to a team which finished 2nd in the National League East Division last season, 13 games behind the division champion Philadelphia Phillies.

According to spotrac.com, the Mets have a Tax Payroll of $411,972,413. Of course, that can change at any time. That includes “dead” payroll money.

spotrac.com lists their “active” payroll as $316,201,398.

The Mets rank #2 in MLB in the amount of Tax Payroll, as well as Active Payroll. Only the Los Angeles Dodgers have higher payroll expenditures.

New faces on the Mets, and their respective salaries for the 2026 season are listed below:

Cohen and Stearns have dedicated hefty financial resources this offseason on long-term contracts for several of their new players. They include:

1. Bo Bichettewho will receive $126M over three years. The average annual value of his contract exceeds that of players like Aaron Judge ($40M) Vlad Guerrero Jr. ($35.71M) Mike Trout ($35.54M) and Alex Bregman ($35M).

Bichette may opt out of his Mets contract after this year, as he holds players options at $42M per year for 2027, and 2028.

2. Marcus Semienwho the Mets traded for, has a seven-years, $178M contract he signed in 2022.

3. Luis Robert's contract, who the Mets traded for, has a $20M club option for 2027. If Robert is successful, he could be granted that option.

4. Devin Williams signed a three-year, $51M contract with the Mets.

5. Jorge Polanco signed a two-year, $40M contract with the Mets.

6. Luke Weaver signed a two year, $22M contract with the Mets.

7. Freddy Peraltawho will work on a very team friendly $8M contract, can be a free agent after the World series. If Peralta becomes the ace Stearns is seeking, it is likely the Mets will sign him long term.

Stearns knew Peralta from Stearns’s days with the Milwaukee Brewers. The Mets traded with the Brewers to obtain Peralta.

In addition to Freddy Peralta, the following players can become free agents at the end of the World Series:

Luis Garcia-P (the newcomer is on a one year contract)
A.J. Minter-LHP
David Peterson-LHP
Tyrone Taylor-OF
Luis Torens-C

These Players Are Gone From The Mets:

While Stearns reshaped his roster by 25%, he still has to make up for the loss of some very consequential players.

The Mets lost these players off their roster in the offseason:

– Pete Alonso-1B-opted out of his Mets contract, and signed with the Baltimore Orioles as a free agent.

– Brandon Nimmo-OF—was traded by the Mets to the Texas Rangers

– Edwin Diaz-RP (closer)-was signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers as a free agent

– Jeff McNeil-INF/OF, was traded to the Athletics

– Starling Marte-OF-left as a free agent, and is still unsigned’

– Luisangel Acuna-INF-was traded to the Chicago White Sox

– Cedric Mullins-OF-has signed with the Tampa Bay Rays

– Gregory Soto-RP-has signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates

– Griffin Canning-SP-remains on the free agent market

– Ryan Helsley-RP-has signed with the Baltimore Orioles

Those are some substantial losses for the Mets.

The home run bat of Alonso is gone. Can Bichette, Robert, Semien, and Polanco add some much needed pop?

By pure depth, the quartet above should give the Mets plenty of firepower.

Diaz was a fine closer. But the Mets now have both Devin Williams, and if need be, Luke Weaver to close out games.
