  • The website will allow people to buy prescription drugs via a government website.
  • Trump made the announcement alongside Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla.

Americans will soon be able to buy prescription drugs directly from the federal government, according to the White House.

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump announced the launch of a direct-to-consumer website where consumers could purchase. discounted drugs. It will be called “TrumpRx.”

Trump also said that the White House has reached an agreement with Pfizer to sell its drugs to Medicaid at lower prices. Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla joined Trump for the announcements.

It’s not clear what prescriptions will be available on the site. During the Pfizer announcement, Trump briefly mentioned that some of their drugs would be available on the site.

Craig Garthwaite, a health economist at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, said before the official announcement that it’s “hard to imagine any large impact on the market.”

“Most people need insurance to pay for expensive drugs,” Garthwaite wrote on X. “Hard to imagine prices here are lower than net prices. Definitely not lower than most out of pocket payments.”

In May, Trump signed an executive order pressuring the largest pharmaceutical companies to offer their drugs at “Most Favored Nation status,” a model based on the lowest price available in a comparable country.

In July, Trump sent letters to Bourla and 16 other CEOs of major drugmakers, detailing how their companies should cut drug prices based on the executive order. Trump gave CEOs 60 days for their companies to comply with his requests.
