ANKARA — Two gunmen from a suspected far-left group attacked an Istanbul courthouse on Tuesday, wounding at least six before being killed by police officers. Three police officers were among the wounded.

Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said the two militants were killed in clashes after they opened fire on police officers on duty outside of Istanbul’s Caglayan courthouse at around 11:45 a.m. local time, one of the largest courthouses in Turkey.

Yerlikaya identified the militants, a male and a female, as alleged members of the outlawed Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party-Front, or DHKP-C.

As of this writing, the group has not claimed responsibility for the attack.

The outfit is considered a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union, which had claimed a series of attacks inside Turkey including a 2013 suicide bombing attack on the US Embassy in Ankara.
