After Israel vote, Trump says will 'look' at helping Netanyahu form unity government
WASHINGTON — With no clear winner in Israel’s election at this time, President Donald Trump said Wednesday he would consider helping caretaker Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu form a unity government.
Exit polls suggest neither Netanyahu’s right-wing bloc nor that of his chief rival, Gadi Eisenkot, won the 61 seats required for a parliamentary majority, setting the stage for weeks of coalition negotiations. The elections were Israel’s first since the October 2023 attacks by Hamas and drew the highest voter turnout in nearly three decades.
Trump said he hadn’t thought about it when asked by Axios Wednesday whether he will get involved in the election deadlock and help Netanyahu form a unity government, which he would lead.
“I will take a look,” he told the outlet.
