Lincoln Electric: 3 Key Takeaways for Long-Term Investors | The Motley Fool
On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 27, 2026, Lincoln Electric (LECO +9.17%) reported record sales and earnings, driven by mid-teens organic sales growth, which excludes acquisitions and foreign currency shifts. Demand is accelerating across key end markets as customer order rates push backlogs to new records. That operational momentum shows how effectively the business turns industrial expansion into durable financial returns.
Three things management said stand out.
1. Sales Volume Growth Outpaces Price Increases for the First Time in Years
Consolidated sales volume expanded 9% and outpaced price gains across all reportable segments and end markets. Industrial activity in the Americas and Asia Pacific continues to accelerate, driving mid-single-digit volume gains in welding consumables, which are the disposable filler metals used in welding operations.
This is the first quarter in over 2.5 years that volume growth has outpaced price and volume momentum remains robust through October.

2. Price Increases Target Neutrality Against Inflationary Raw Material Costs
Surging costs for energy, electronic components, and raw materials clipped gross profit margin, which measures profit left after direct production costs, by 1.9 percentage points to 34.8%. Management raised prices across all three operating divisions late in the quarter to offset rising input costs going forward.
We implemented price actions during the quarter in all 3 segments, which will enable us to achieve price cost neutrality in the fourth quarter.

3. Physical Artificial Intelligence Platform Opens Unfettered Market Growth for Automation
High-mix manufacturers historically struggled with robotic welding because inconsistent parts required expensive custom tooling. Lincoln Electric introduced ExpertLink, a Physical Artificial Intelligence (AI) solution that lets robots adjust dynamically without human reprogramming, and it comes with a $3,000 annual subscription per device.
ExpertLink enables a welding robot to adapt on the fly to real world conditions like an experienced human welder would.

Looking Ahead
Order rates for welding automation and equipment are climbing as order backlogs hit record heights. Lincoln Electric maintains strong market positioning through proprietary software and deep distribution networks, while management closely monitors pricing discipline and input costs.
We have seen enough in incoming orders and another record level backlog that gives us confidence of strong momentum going to 2027.

Full-year net sales guidance is moving up into the low-teens percentage range alongside higher capital spending under the RISE strategic enterprise growth plan.
