Elon Musk slid into her DMs. Now Ashley St. Clair is telling her side of the story.
“Musk,” Alex Gibney’s epic-length documentary on Elon Musk, is in theaters today. Some of the most eye-opening moments in the doc’s nearly four-hour runtime are the revelations from Ashley St. Clair, the mother of one of Musk’s children.
In the documentary, St. Clair opens up about the private life of the richest man in the world, including his desire to have many children (he has 14 that we know of).
So who is Ashley St. Clair, and how did she get involved with Musk? Here’s what we know about her.

St. Clair became popular in right-wing spheres after building a following on X, where she would tweet MAGA talking points. At the time, she was also a writer for the right-wing satirical news site The Babylon Bee, and made appearances on Fox News. She now has over one million followers on X.
She also wrote the book, “Elephants Are Not Birds,” described as a “Christian, Conservative children’s book that tackles the topic of identity,” according to its publisher, Brave Books.
In January 2026, St. Clair began to reconsider her political views and stated on X that she was removing her name as author of “Elephants Are Not Birds.”

St. Clair said she first interacted with Musk in 2023 on X — which Musk acquired a year earlier — when he followed her and then slid into her DMs.
St. Clair described her relationship with Musk to the New York Times as more “emotionally intimate” than romantic. “We were in contact every day. But also I was never like, ‘I’m the chosen one,'” she said.
She described vacationing in St. Bart’s with Musk when he encouraged her to have more kids (St. Clair has a child from a previous relationship). “He said, ‘You should have 10 kids! Let’s have a kid. My only limited resource is time,'” she recalled to the Times.
St. Clair spoke out about the birth of their child for the first time in a New York Post story in February 2025, revealing she gave birth in 2024.
Musk spoke out about the child for the first time a month later in a post on X, stating that though he didn’t know if the child was his, “I have given Ashley $2.5M and am sending her $500k/year,” he wrote.
St. Clair says she turned down a $40 million NDA
St. Clair said in “Musk” that after giving birth to Musk’s child, their relationship went south. That’s when she says she was offered $15 million up front and $100,000 per month over 21 years if she signed an NDA. She refused.
A day after the movie’s world premiere in September, Musk disputed the terms of St. Clair’s NDA, commenting on X that St. Clair “was never offered that and has a history of making false claims.” Musk did not respond to a request for comment.

In the documentary, St. Clair also shares revelatory details about Musk’s life behind closed doors. She said one night she was with Musk in bed while he listened to a podcast about Kublai Khan, a descendant of Genghis Khan who had at least 47 children.
She also said that Musk once texted her that he needed a “legion of children before the civil war.”
Musk, for his part, isn’t happy about the documentary as a whole, and took to X to comment.
“Gibney just assembled a hit list of people who either have an axe to grind or don’t even know me (but still have an axe to grind). He has ZERO integrity. Horrible human,” Musk wrote.
“Musk” opens in select theaters on Friday.
